Kay Pierce
Kay Pierce, a donor with a deep love and appreciation for her community, left her entire estate worth more than two million dollars to the Ascension Michigan Foundation to be used exclusively for providing improvements and acquiring new equipment at Ascension Borgess-Pipp Hospital.
Kay Pierce was so committed to improving the quality of the Plainwell-area health care that she wove her decades-long tenure on the board of the local hospital into the very fabric of her life.
Described as gracious, caring and friendly by many who knew her, Mrs. Pierce’s trademark saying was “Laughter is the best medicine.” From her commitment to volunteering to serving as a board trustee for over 20 years, her dedication to Borgess-Pipp Hospital was obviously loving and lifelong.
Enhancements made to the hospital as a result of Mrs. Pierce’s gift include:
- Main floor hallway
- Nurse’s station and inpatient rooms
- Main lobby area
- Laboratory blood draw area
- Outpatient rehabilitation gym expansion and department
Plus equipment upgrades:
- Dual-head computed tomography (CT) scan contrast injector
- Portable ultrasound system
- Powered ambulance cots
- Laboratory chemistry and hematology analyzers
- Two bariatric specialty beds
